University of East Anglia

University of East Anglia was originally based in the present-day University Village – with teaching space for about 1200 students – and admitted its first cohort of 87 students in 1963. UEA welcomed its first Vice-Chancellor, Frank Thistlethwaite, at this time.

The University of East Anglia (UEA) is ranked in the UK Top 25 (The Times/Sunday Times 2020 and Complete University Guide 2020), and the World Top 200 Universities (The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020). We are an internationally renowned university based in a campus that provides top quality academic, social and cultural facilities to over 17,000 students across a diverse range of Undergraduate and Postgraduate degree courses.

UEA’s academic thinking has been distinctive from the word go. With its motto of ‘do different’ and focus on interdisciplinarity across subjects, UEA has continued to be academically innovative throughout its development.

UEA’s richly diverse research base is embedded in our outstanding teaching and connects our world-leading academics with society, government and industry. Specialisms range from health and nutrition, to the environment and responses to climate change, exploring issues of family and child policy, investigating competition and regulation through to creativity and enterprise. We have strong collaborative research links across Norwich Research Park – one of Europe’s largest concentrations of researchers in the fields of environment, health and plant science. In the last Research Excellence Framework (REF2014), UEA was placed 10th in the UK for the quality of its research output (Times Higher REF 2014 Analysis).

Norwich, England (UK)

UEA’s campus is like a mini city – it’s big enough to find your niche but small enough to call home. Set in 20 hectares of beautiful parkland with amazing on-campus facilities like the Ziggurats, Sainsbury Centre and a great students’ union, UEA is a fantastic campus university. When you’re ready to explore further afield, we’re just 15 minutes from Norwich city centre, one of the UK’s most vibrant and independent cities. Explore our campus and find out why over 16,000 students from around the world call UEA home.

The campus is located in 320 acres of rolling parkland just two miles from the centre of Norwich, the cathedral city, and England’s first UNESCO City of Literature.
