University of Bolton is a modern university with a distinguished history and has a long and proud heritage that goes back to 1825. Through the years, our institution has evolved, always allowing for the special emphasis on theory and practice that was developed in the 19th century, enhanced in the 20th century, and still sits firmly at the heart of our unique university today.
Over the years the university has faced a number of changes and challenges, but has never lost focus of the university moto ‘Sapientia Superat Moras’ (Wisdom overcomes difficulty). The 21st century has seen major developments to the university’s programmes, with the development of courses in niche market areas, as well as collaborations with many industries to help improve our student’s chance of employability.
The higher education system in the UK has changed dramatically over the past few years. Bolton not only kept up with changes, but actively anticipated trends, to ensure that our students graduate with the best possible experience and career prospects. We regularly review and change our courses to ensure that they deliver industry-relevant knowledge and skills. We’ve developed a number of very career-focused courses: from sport rehabilitation to dental technology, special effects to motorsport engineering.
With our focus on graduate employability, we demonstrate that our role as a university goes beyond merely teaching. We’re in the business of transforming lives. Our role is to fully prepare our students so that they have the opportunities and self-belief they need to make a success of their futures. By working with businesses and employers, we create focused, industry-relevant courses that attract high-achieving students from across the nation. Our students study in surroundings which reflect as closely as possible the working environment which they are likely to enter, with industry standard equipment.
Bolton, Manchester and the surrounding areas are very multi-cultural, so any international student will never feel alone. The university also has one of the most ethnically diverse student populations with around 25% of UK/Home students. You can also buy products (including food) from around the world at our international market place, so you will always feel at home. With around 60 nationalities represented on campus, the University of Bolton is an international community with a rich cultural mix, and we have many features that make us an excellent option for international students.
